AGL has responded to the Australian Energy Market Commission fast frequency response market ancillary service draft determination which proposes to introduce two new market ancillary service categories into the National Energy Rules for a very fast raise service and a very fast lower service to support the power system as the level of inertia provided by synchronous generators declines in the NEM. AGL has suggested that the new rule be introduced within a two year timeframe, rather than the one year timeframe proposed in the draft determination, since there are existing grid-scale batteries in the market which are already providing a very fast frequency response which should be compensated for providing this service.

AGL’s full submission is available here.
