Just like the broader Australian community, many of our people at AGL identify as being part of the LGBTI+ community – and many more friends and family members are allies. Together, we want to make sure our workplace is one where everyone feels genuinely included, supported, and safe.
AGL was recently awarded Gold Employer status at the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) awards for being one of the most inclusive workplaces for LGBTI+ people in Australia.
Our support of the LGBTI+ community is unequivocal, embedded in our DNA, and a key aspect of our core company values.
Why does this matter to an energy company?
We are an essential service provider, a large ASX-listed employer, and a visible member of the communities in which we operate.
We believe we can and do play an important role in fostering inclusive workplaces and inclusive communities – and this is just one of the ways we do this.
How do we show our support?
We’re committed to ensuring our people feel included, supported and safe to be their authentic selves, both at work and within our broader community.
At AGL we offer all our employees the opportunity to take part in LGBTI+ Awareness training, as well as sessions focussing on how to be an LGBTI+ ally. We also have an LGBTI+ Inclusive Language Guide and Ally Guide, which helps to drive LGBTI+ inclusion and advocacy across our business.
Another way we show our support is by embracing the LGBTI+ festival season, with our people celebrating the diversity of the LGBTI+ community right across Australia. The LGBTI+ festivals bring together an array of art, theatre and music – championing LGBTI+ cultures with a splash of vibrant colour.
AGL is a proud sponsor of many iconic LGBTI+ cultural events, where people come together with pride about who they are and what they represent.
- We have proudly participated in Melbourne’s iconic Midsumma Festival since 2015. Midsumma has become an iconic instalment on the Melbourne events calendar, offering the unique opportunity for people to come together to celebrate pride, creating an intersection between generations, people, ideas, stories and experiences.
- In Sydney, we have been supporting the Queer Screen’s Mardi Gras Film Festival since 2016. The festival showcases an exciting array of diverse films that reflect different LGBTI+ cultures and experiences.
- We have been proudly sponsoring and participating in LGBTI+ events right across Australia over the past few years, including the Broken Heel Festival, Brisbane Pride Festival and Adelaide’s Feast Festival.
- We also support the Pride Cup in Gippsland with the Gippsland Football Club, as well as sponsoring the Pride Tennis Cup in partnership with the Traralgon Tennis Club.
