Just before Christmas every year, a town of 2,000 people in the Adelaide Hills bursts into light and life so incandescent that it can be seen from space.
The Lights of Lobethal has been an annual tradition for more than six decades. At its outset, locals hand-painted lights to decorate shops along the Main Street; today, it is the biggest community Christmas lights display in the Southern Hemisphere.
Hundreds of thousands of people will make the 42km pilgrimage from Adelaide to see the lights, and none more than on this Sunday for the annual Lights On Ceremony, when the entire display will be powered up as crowds watch and fireworks burst overhead.
Supporting our communities
AGL is proud once more to be a major sponsor of the Lights of Lobethal, donating $10,000 of financial and in-kind support towards the organisation of the festival.
Alongside innovation and growth, supporting our communities is one of our three key strategic pillars. We’re proud to support the Lobethal community, the Adelaide Hills community, and the broader South Australian community, and we’re proud to be involved with supporting such an iconic and renowned event.
The Lights of Lobethal runs from Sunday 8 December through to Sunday 29 December. The festival beings this Sunday with the annual Lights on Ceremony from 6pm. For more information, visit www.lightsoflobethal.com.au
