As one of Australia’s oldest companies, and an essential service provider, being able to give back to the community is important to us.
AGL’s workforce is enormously diverse, with people from all over the country with a huge variety of skills. Equally diverse are the causes our people believe in.
We encourage employee giving – and through our 'Power to Give' program, we are happy to put our money where our mouth is. Donations made by our people through 'Power to Give' – which connects our people with more than 400 charities – are matched, dollar for dollar, up to $5,000 per employee per year, by AGL.
As well as providing a way for our people to make one-off or recurring payroll donations to charities, the 'Power to Give' program also allows our people to set up fundraising pages for their favourite causes and events and AGL matches all fundraising pages up to $1,000 per page.
So how much was donated in the 2018/19 financial year?
As outlined in AGL's FY19 Data Centre:
- Donations in the 2018/19 financial year reached a new high of $282,761, with the money going to more than 60 charities.1
- And $74,382 was raised from fundraising pages and by holding fundraising events.2

Now let’s have a look at some of the most successful fundraising events…
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea
In May 2019, our people raised $9,330 for the Cancer Council through nine morning teas across AGL sites. AGL Macquarie in the Hunter Valley, which comprises the Bayswater and Liddell power plants, raised the most money for the Cancer Council, with a total of $1,760.
Like all Aussies, AGL people wanted to help farmers around the country during the drought, especially those they know who live near AGL sites. In September 2018 AGL people supported the Aussie farmers in drought by donating to fundraising pages. Rural Aid received $9,0233 in total from AGL.
When the horrific massacre in Christchurch unfolded last year, AGL people wanted to give their support. We created a fundraising page, donating $2,250 to MMA International, to support the Christchurch victims and their families.
RSPCA Cupcake Day 2018 raised $6,447 with six AGL sites participating. This year we’ve had half the number of sites participating however so far, donations have reached $3,520 with more on the way.
