This morning, our CEO Andy Vesey, announced that AGL will be rolling out companywide Family and Domestic Violence Training program in partnership with our Employee Assistance Provider (EAP), Converge International.
This training will start in February, and underpins our ‘Safety and beyond’ and ‘Inclusive of all’ values. Our aim is to raise awareness, change behaviours and attitudes towards this issue, continue to foster an environment where people feel safe to speak up and ask for help, ensure we can recognise the signs of someone who may need support, and confidently respond in a caring and inclusive way.
We have also added a new Family and Domestic Violence helpline to our EAP this week, which AGL people can call at any time for support, help to plan for safety at home and at work, and access to specialised services.
As Chair of AGL’s Anti-Family & Domestic Violence Working Group, I’m really proud that we have come together to strengthen AGL’s stand against family and domestic violence, and will be one of the first listed companies in Australia to roll out training to our entire workforce. Conversations about family and domestic violence aren’t easy, and we expect that the training and the additional support available through the Family and Domestic Violence Helpline will give our people the confidence to engage in difficult conversations and equip them to provide or connect people with appropriate support – not only with their colleagues at AGL – but in their families, friendship and social circles.
It is an uncomfortable reality that, statistically speaking at least, it is likely that there are perpetrators of family and domestic violence within our organisation. We’re also hopeful that this training will also encourage anyone who has been a perpetrator of violence to seek confidential advice.
