AGL has been declared one of the country’s most inclusive workplaces for LGBTI people, having been awarded Gold Tier Employer status at the Australian LGBTI Inclusion Awards, held in Sydney last week.
Over 100 organisations participated in this year’s Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) – an annual assessment of government, corporate, small business, and not-for-profit organisations’ efforts to build an LGBTI-inclusive culture and environment.
We were rated one the best performing new entrants in 2015 and leapfrogged Bronze to be awarded a Silver tier in 2016.
Doug Jackson, Executive General Manager Group Operations and Sponsor for our employee-driven LGBTI network AGL Shine, said that the step forward from Silver status last year was an important recognition of AGL's efforts to ensure a safe and inclusive workplace for all.
“This is a wonderful recognition of the sustained focus and effort of our AGL Shine network, our Diversity & Inclusion team, and the many leaders and employees who are advocates and champions of LGBTI inclusion across our business”, Doug said.
David Spree, Chair of the AGL Shine network, said the award was the result of the team’s hard work over the past three years.
“So many people have played a part in getting us to where we are today over the past three years, and I would like to thank every one of them”, David said.
Last week, to commemorate International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT), we blogged about our new Gender Identity & Transitioning Support Guidelines, and were featured championing LGBTI inclusion in our communities in local news (below).
