The Clean Energy Regulator (CER) has released a summary of information reported under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) Act for 2014/15.
In this period, total reported scope 1 greenhouse gas emissions were more than 317.48 million tCO2e. This is an increase of 4% from 2013/14.
With 38.3 million tCO2e scope 1 emissions, AGL was the largest emitting corporation in 2014/15, accounting for 12% of the total reported emissions. This is an increase of 18.7 million tCO2e or 95% from 2013/14. This is due to the acquisition of AGL Macquarie in September 2014 and represents a transfer of emissions reported under NGERs rather than a standalone increase.
The graph displayed above shows the highest 20 corporations in terms of scope 1 emissions reported under NGERs. These 20 corporations represent 71% of the total emissions reported by the 401 registered corporations.
The CER's factsheet also identifies the top three emitting industries under NGERs: electricity generation (55.3%), mining (20%) and manufacturing (16.6%).
